Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join this church?
In today's world, the issue of church membership is often avoided like the plague. Here at Cedar Grove, we value membership because God values His children being committed to the Body of Christ. For an in depth understanding of how to join this church and maximize your involvement in the Body of Christ, please look for the membership button on the home page. Thanks for your interest in Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

If I am already a member, what is the best way for me to really get plugged in around Cedar Grove?
While it is difficult to say what the best way to get really connected is, there are two really effective ways to maximize your experience and usefulness within this church. One way is for you to get connected into a Life Group. You will find a brief description of these groups under several of the main links on the home page. The other way is to connect your self to one of our different ministries. This can be best accomplished by attending a 301 class which is part of Starting Point. Look for the Starting point button on the Home page.

What is Group link?
Group Link is an 8 week opportunity for you to be a part of a transitional Life Group led by our pastor. There is no future obligation. This is a great way to get to know our pastor on a more personal level while you explore the benefits of being in a small group community. At the end of your 8 week experience, you will have the opportunity to be connected to another permanent Life Group if you so choose. See the Group Link button on the home page for more details.

What is Starting Point?
Starting Point is the place you begin to get connected to the Body life of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. It is made up of three classes that are 4 weeks each. (101, 201, 301) These classes deal with Membership, Spiritual Maturity and Ministry discovery and placement. For more information please see the button entitled Starting point on the home page.

Why do you have two different services?
Here at Cedar Grove we realize that we live in a world full of choices. People like to choose for themselves. Often times the style of music in a church is the most talked about topic across the table. Simply put, we don't want music style to keep someone from missing "worship". We want each and every individual who enter our doors to be able to experience God in ways that they are familiar with. In short, we want to minimize the distractions. After all, God, not music style should be the focus each and every Sunday morning.

If I am interested in serving in a particular ministry area, how can I get started serving in this church?
Here at Cedar Grove, we value people sacrificing to serve the Lord in ministry. In most (not all) of our ministry positions, we ask that you are a member of the church before pursuing such a place of service. After becoming a member, if you are already confident of your gifts and are passionate about a particular area of ministry, you may contact the appropriate staff member directly to discuss ministry possibilities. If you are not certain about how God has gifted you and/or you are not particularly passionate about an area of ministry yet, the best place to start is with class 301. Please see the button entitled Starting Point on the home page for more details about this class designed specifically to help you discover how God has shaped you for ministry.

When are your services?
Sunday mornings at 8:30am (Traditional) and 10:45am (Contemporary) Wednesdays Service at 6:30pm.

What are Life Groups?
Life Groups are opportunities on Sunday mornings for the people of our church to get connected to spiritual life and community life. God desires for His people to grow in our love for Him and each other. Life Groups give us an opportunity each week to grow deeper in our faith through Bible Study and develop relationships that are real and meaningful. Currently these Life Groups meet on campus at Cedar Grove each Sunday at 9:30am.

How do I get involved in a Life Group on Sunday morning?
There are two simple ways to get involved in Life Groups. If you are new to the church or even if you have been coming for some time, Group Link is an excellent way to begin the connection into Life Groups. Another easy way to find a Life Group that you may be suited for is to simply call our Ministry Development Office at 699-4804 for assistance.

What form of government does Cedar Grove Baptist Church operate under?
Cedar Grove Baptist Church is lead by a servant staff and deacons. We do not have a monthly business meeting. We only have a yearly business in order to approve our yearly budget. Special called business meetings sometimes do arise in the case of hiring/firing a senior pastor, borrowing money, building buildings or electing church trustees. All monthly business is handled in what is known as The Administrative Council. The Administrative Council is made up of all staff, committee heads, trustees of the church and the deacon chair person. Each of these meetings is well published and the church is invited. Thus the church deals by vote with all big issues while The Administrative Council deals with the small details that need attention month to month.

Why should I be baptized after becoming a Christian?
People become a child of God through repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Baptism is a public identification of our lives to Jesus Christ. It is symbolic according to Romans 6 of a person dying to their old life and being raised to walk in a new life in Christ. Here at Cedar Grove we baptize by immersion. Baptism is commanded in Acts 2 and the Lord Jesus molded it for us as an example to follow. Every person who has genuinely become a follower of Jesus Christ should follow this commitment up with believer's baptism.
